Which Canadian city should host the Olympics?

Toronto officially took itself out of the running for the 2024 Olympics on Tuesday when mayor John Tory announced the city won't submit a bid.

Tory left the door open for Toronto to try for future Games, and Canadian Olympic Committee president Marcel Aubut said in a statement that his organization "is determined to have the Olympics back in the country at the earliest opportunity."

When and where could that be? Host cities are already set for the Olympics in 2016 (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), 2018 (Pyeongchang, South Korea), 2020 (Tokyo, Japan) and 2022 (Beijing, China), so the next available Games would be the winter versionin 2026.

As for possible Canadian candidates, Postmedia reports that "business and community leaders" in Calgary, which hosted in 1988, have been discussing a potential 2026 bid over the last 18 months.

Aubut has expressed his fondness for Quebec City as a potential winter venue. Itlost its bid for the 2002 Olympics to Salt Lake City.

If Aubut wanted to help bring a Summer Olympics to his home province, Montreal could be an option. It hosted in 1976.

It would be unusual for Vancouver to make a run at another Olympics so soon after hosting in 2010, but Beijing is slatedto host for the second time in 14 years.
