Sidney Crosby joins Triple Gold Club

Sidney Crosby became a member of the Triple Gold Club on Sunday after Canada defeated Russia in the final of the world championship.

Sidney Crosbyhas another impressive item to add to his growing list of accomplishments.

On Sunday, he became the 10th Canadian to join the Triple Gold Club which acknowledges victories in the Olympics, the world championship, and the Stanley Cup Final.

Canada defeated Russia 6-1 in the world championship gold medal game to help Crosbycomplete the trifecta.

Crosby won gold with Canada at the 2010 and 2014 Olympics and hoisted the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009.

The Cole Harbour, N.S. nativejoins Canadian playersRob Blake, Joe Sakic,Brendan Shanahan, Scott Niedermayer, Chris Pronger,Eric Staal, Jonathan Toews, Patrice Bergeron, and coach Mike Babcockin the category recognized by the International Ice Hockey Federation.

The 27-year-old chipped in with a goal in Canada's victory over Russia on Saturday.


And Crosby will always be remembered for scoring the "golden goal" that lifted Canada over the United States in overtime at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.


In total, there are 26 players in the Triple Gold Club. Canada and Sweden now both have nine, along with six Russians and two Czechs.
