Kaetlyn Osmond injures foot during choreography session

Two-time Canadian figure skating champion Kaetlyn Osmond suffered a foot injury during a routine choreography session in Edmonton on Thursday, Skate Canada corporate communications director Barb MacDonald confirmed to CBC News.

Two-time Canadian figure skating championKaetlynOsmondsuffered a foot injury during a routine choreography session in Edmonton on Thursday, Skate Canada corporate communications director Barb MacDonald confirmed to CBC News.

Its unclear how long Osmond, 18, will be sidelined or the severity of herinjury.

MacDonald saidOsmond was evaluated by the Skate Canada medical team.

But the Canadian champions sister, NatashaOsmond,revealed on Facebook that her sibling was scheduled to have surgery Friday.

To allKaetlynsfamily, friend and fans. She had an accident on the ice and unfortunately the results mean surgery today. She is sad to not to be able to skate for a while but is in good spirits and is hoping for a speedy recovery."

But MacDonald wouldnt confirm the surgery, saying only Osmond is undergoing additional assessment."

MacDonald said she expects to release and update onOsmondscondition Monday.

Osmond, who was born inMarystown, N.L., but now resides in Sherwood Park, Alta., contributed to Canada's silver medal in the figure skating team event at the 2014 SochiOlympics. She finished 13th in the women's competition.
