What did Canadian peacekeepers accomplish in Mali?

The UN's peacekeeping mission in Mali is one of the deadliest in recent history, as the country grapples with Islamist violence and other challenges. Canada has been part of theeffort since last year.

"Organized crime, smuggling, drug trafficking, human trafficking, terrorism you can sort of name it, and Mali is afflicted by it," said journalist Richard Poplak.

As Canada's participationin the Mali mission draws to a close, Poplak talks to guest host Michelle Shephardabout whether the mission made good on Ottawa's promise to return to peacekeeping.
