What did Canadian peacekeepers accomplish in Mali?

As Canada's peacekeeping mission in Mali draws down, journalist Richard Poplak talks to guest host Michelle Shephard about whether it made good on Ottawa's promise to return to peacekeeping.

The UN's peacekeeping mission in Mali is one of the deadliest in recent history, as the country grapples with Islamist violence and other challenges. Canada has been part of theeffort since last year.

"Organized crime, smuggling, drug trafficking, human trafficking, terrorism you can sort of name it, and Mali is afflicted by it," said journalist Richard Poplak.

As Canada's participationin the Mali mission draws to a close, Poplak talks to guest host Michelle Shephardabout whether the mission made good on Ottawa's promise to return to peacekeeping.
