7 Ways to Have a Happy At-Home Hanukkah

By CBC Parents Staff

Dec 9, 2020

It’s almost time for Hanukkah! If you're keeping celebrations at home this year and are looking for ways to get the kids involved, we have fun crafts, videos and activities that are perfect for the holiday of lights — just click the photos below.

1. Save your egg cartons for a colourful craft

"This egg carton menorah provides kids with a menorah of their very own to safely 'light' during the eight nights of Hanukkah, and it’s easy enough for even the youngest crafters to make (with some scissor help from grown-ups, of course)."

2. Countdown the days (and nights) with a Hanukkah Surprise Calendar

Surprise Calendar

“We all love a good countdown so we came up with a Hanukkah surprise calendar. The calendar is fun, easy to make and a great activity that you can do with your kids. Best of all, it’s customizable and reusable. Win, win!”

3. Create a simple garland to decorate your home

“The Star of David is the most common and universally recognized symbol of Judaism and Jewish identity. To prepare for Hanukkah, we made this simple Star of David garland.”

4. Make a menorah out of clothespins

“Here’s a fun Hanukkah craft you can make with your kids, or you can make for them to use.”

5. DIY a dreidel

How to make your own dreidel

“The dreidel game is one of the most famous Hanukkah traditions. It was created as a way for Jews to study the Torah and learn Hebrew in secret after Greek King Antiochus IV had outlawed all Jewish religious worship in 175 BCE. Today we play as a way to celebrate a rich history and have fun with friends and family!”

6. Watch a fun music video
