Making Art With Basketballs

If your kids love to be active and aren't afraid to get messy, then this March Madness-inspired process art idea is the perfect blend of messy and active play. It's a great way to get my kids excited for all the basketball games that we will be watching together during March Madness. It is also a fun way for them to continue learning how to dribble a basketball, which is a skill they have been working on.

You Will Need:

• Washable paint - We used liquid watercolors.
• Small basketball - Any small ball will work.
• Large sheet of craft paper
• Tape

Tape a large piece of paper to a washable surface like a kitchen floor. Dab the paint along the paper.

If you are fortunate to live somewhere warm and sunshiny during March, then do this project outside. Just dip the ball in some washable paint and dribble away on the sidewalk. My kids are excited to try this outside in the spring once the snow is all melted. It will be even more fun with a bigger basketball too!

Once you have paint scattered around the paper, encourage the kids to start bouncing and dribbling the basketball through the paint.

As the ball hits the paint, it shoots out and streaks across the paper, leaving really cool paint splatters. The dimpled texture of the basketball makes for some really neat prints too!
