Chalkboard Dolls for Creative Play

Simple wooden stick dolls turn into templates for all kinds of play after a few coats of chalkboard paint. Even including drying time, these took about 15 minutes to make.

We've included a few play ideas below, but the possibilities really are endless!

You need:

• wooden stick dolls (available at craft stores)
• acrylic chalkboard paint (available at art and craft stores)
• paintbrush
• chalk
   

1. Start by giving your wooden stick dolls a couple of coats of chalkboard paint. Allow drying between coats.

2. Once your dolls are dry, you'll need to prime them before first use. To do this, hold a piece of chalk lengthwise and rub it along the surface of your dolls. Then rub it with a soft cloth or tissue.

3. Now they're ready for play! Kids can create a set of dress-up dolls, create a cast of characters for acting out plays or make a set of chalk-doll portraits of friends or family!

4. These are also great for working on emotional development. You can draw different faces on the dolls and have your child identify the emotions they represent.
