Here’s How Kids With Limb Differences Do Stuff With One Hand

BY CBC KIDS STAFF

Jul 18, 2019

Alexis Hillyard of Stump Kitchen has a limb difference. Because of this difference, sometimes people like to ask her how she does stuff with one hand.

Her friends Callie, Ethan and Coda all have limb differences, too — some have missing fingers, others have missing hands.

These kids all have their own way of doing things and they are not afraid to show it!

In the video above, you’ll see these amazing kids performing activities just like everyone else. You asked the questions and here are their answers:

Rock Climbing

Callie feels that her limb difference gives her an advantage, enabling her to grip tightly as she reaches for a higher rock.

Swimming

Callie, Ethan and Coda are all proficient swimmers and have some serious skills. Watch above as they dive, cannon ball and jump in!

Monkey Bars

Everyone has their own way of tackling the most challenging equipment on the playground.

Callie prefers to scoot her way across the top of the monkey bars, Ethan does chin-ups and Coda swings freely from bar to bar all the way to the end.

Riding A Bike

Callie rides a bike with ease and confidence. She slips on a prosthetic to help reach the handle bars, and can control both breaks with her able-bodied hand.
