Health-care providers and patients across the world are embracing mobile technology to improve health services.

According to a new study, 500 million people will be using smartphone health applications by 2015.

"Our findings indicate that the long-expected mobile revolution in health-care is set to happen," said Ralf-Gordon Jahns, the head researcher behind the Global Mobile Health Market Report 2010-2015, released in November.

There are about 17,000 mobile health apps in major stores today, the report said, from symptom reference guides to calorie counters to programs for tracking blood glucose and blood pressure levels.
