U.S. voter reform hurting democracy, critics say

More than a dozen U.S. states have passed voter reform laws backed mostly by Republicans that critics say endangers the democratic process.

While supporters say the new rules are meant to prevent voter fraud, opponents say it amounts to voter suppression and the disenfranchisement of some lower-income Hispanics and African-Americans.

The tactics involve rules requiring voter identification and changes to early voting and registration, CBC's Keith Boag reports.
