Progress made on Lockerbie suspects

British Prime Minister Tony Blair and South African President Nelson Mandela say progress has been made in trying to persuade Libya to hand over two suspects in the Lockerbie bombing.

They say a high-ranking South African official and the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States will travel to Libya next week for talks with President Mohamar Gaddafi.

Libya wants sanctions against it lifted in exchange for the suspects. It also wants the two, if convicted, to serve their sentences at home or in a neutral country.

Pan Am Flight 103 blew up near Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988, killing 270 people.
