Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, daughter of Prince William and Kate, turns 1

Britain's Princess Charlotte, the baby daughter of Prince William and his wife, Kate, celebrated her first birthday Monday.

Charlotte is named after her late grandmother, Diana, and great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth

Princess Charlotte, the daughter of Prince William and his wife, Kate,celebratedher first birthday Monday.

Charlotte's birthday on May 2 comesjust a few days after the Dukeand Duchess of Cambridgecelebrated their fifth wedding anniversary, on April 29.

4th in line to the throne

Royal salutes

Charlotte'sbirth was marked with simultaneous royal gun salutes in London's Hyde Park and at the Tower of London 41 and 62, respectively, honouring a tradition thatcelebrates the birth of every prince or princess, regardless of their place in the succession.

'Perfect' name

The princess's full name, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, is a nod to her late grandmother, Diana, and her great-grandmother Elizabeth. Earl Spencer, Diana's brother, welcomed the choice of names, saying they were "perfect."
