The former U.S. president continues to teach Sunday school in Plains, Georgia, a place where he is both idolized and considered a regular member of the community.

When former U.S. president Jimmy Carter returned home to Plains, Ga., after treatment for cancer that's spread to his brain, he was met with lawns overflowing with signs of support. Not political campaign signs, but signs that read "Jimmy Carter for cancer survivor."

The cherished son of the tiny town of Plains was reportedlythrilled he knows his neighbours adore him, CBC's AdrienneArsenaultreports. But the former president is getting support from more than just his neighbours. Almost every week now, hundreds of people drive through the night to get in line for tickets to see him teach Sunday school at the local Baptist church. What happens next is not always what they expect.
