Recalling the historic demise of the Cold War barrier dividing Germany

It's been a quarter-century since the collapse of the Berlin Wall, that symbol of cold war antagonism that split Germany into east and west.

The countryhas since been reunited, but for many Germans, thevideo footage of the protests and the subsequent dismantling of thephysical barrier still elicits powerful feelings and memories of shock and disbelief.

"I thought it was a film," says one man, reflecting on the historic event, which eventually led tothe fall of Communism andthe collapse of the Soviet Union.

As one German woman says, "It still brings tears to your eyes when you think about it."
