RIM issues security patch for business clients

Research In Motion Ltd. has issued a security patch for its Blackberry Enterprise Server software to close a potential vulnerability.

Research In Motion Ltd. has issued a security patch for its Blackberry Enterprise Server software to close a potential vulnerability.

The fix was posted on the company's website last week.

The patch addresses vulnerabilities in the way some versions of the BlackBerry Attachment Service handle PDF files.

RIM, based in Waterloo, Ont., said an individual could send a PDF file, which when opened on a BlackBerry, could cause memory corruption and possibly lead to arbitrary code execution on the computer that hosts the BlackBerry Attachment Service.

An interim security software update was issued for the affected versions of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software and BlackBerry Professional Software used by RIM's business clients.
