Lisa MacLeod, Ontario MPP, won't run to replace John Baird

Lisa MacLeod, the former Ontario PC leadership candidate, says she won't attempt a run for John Baird's Ottawa-area federal seat after spending five years in campaign mode.

MacLeod represents the Nepeanarea in the Ontario legislature. She's held the seat since 2006 and had been in the race to lead the Ontario PCs, but recently threw her support behind Christine Elliott.

In a statement released Tuesday, MacLeod said she appreciates the "overwhelming" support of community leaders and from her constituents, but that she and her husband Joe decided against her making a federal run.

"We have been in constant campaign mode for close to five years. Our nine-year-old daughter Victoria deserves a break from door knocking, phone calls and late-night campaign meetings," MacLeod said in the statement.

Baird announced earlier this month that he was resigning as foreign affairs minister and won't run in the 2015 federal election.

MacLeod said she will continue to represent her riding as MPP.
