Sudbury's first solar farm set to come online

The first solar farm in Greater Sudbury could be generating electricity at full capacity soon.

Valley East site to generate electricity for about 1,500 homes, businesses

The first solar farm in Greater Sudbury could be generating electricity at full capacity soon.

Construction at the Valley East site is in its final stages. The company behind the project Canadian Solar is waiting for the Ontario Power Authority to approve commercial operations.

Jeff Roy is the director of projects and engineering for Canadian Solar.He says the local community will gain from the project.

"The long term benefit is renewable energy project being added to the mix of generation in Ontario," he said."There are some ...tax benefits to installing the project. So there's positive benefits there to the local community."

Roy saidthe solar farm sits on about 70 acres of land. Itshould generate electricity for about 1,500homes and businesses every year.
