North River Fire Department holding open house after successful Chase the Ace

The North River Fire Department in Cornwall, P.E.I., is hosting an open house Sunday to wrap up Fire Prevention Week.

Event will include display about new truck that will be bought with Chase the Ace winnings

The North River Fire Department in Cornwall, P.E.I., is hosting an open house Sundayto wrap up Fire Prevention Week.

It's an annual event, but it's expected to draw big crowdsbecause of this year's successful Chase the Ace fundraiser.

The department raised about $740,000and is now buying a new fire truck.

This weekend, people will get to see a displaywith details of the new equipment.

Police, rescue, EMS also on hand

Deputy chiefDean Smith saysthe open house is a good way for the public to catch a glimpse of how the department runs. Trucks and other equipment will be on display.

"There's always curiosity about what happens inside the doors of thefirehall," he said, particularly among children.

"It's nice to have a kid to come along to break the ice for you."

Members of PEI Ground Search and Rescue, theRCMP and Island EMS will also be there.

The event runs fromfrom 11 a.m.to 3 p.m. at the fire hall.
