This map usestheArmed Conflict Location and Event Data Projectdatabaseto plot the movement's campaign of violence from its inception to the present surge of brutality in the run-up to the 2015 Nigerian presidential election.

ACLEDis a data project undertaken by the University of Sussex, with collaborators at the University of Colorado, and studies political violence in Africa. Researchers use media reports to assign the actors in a conflict, which include instances such as armed combat, violence against civilians and protests to examine levels of violence in the area.
