X-Files set for a ratings touchdown with 2016 premiere

Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully will return to television in The X-Files rebooton Jan. 24, 2016, Fox announced Monday.

And the network is positioning the hotly anticipated premiereto nabthe most eyeballs possible.

The network will air the first episode in the six-episode revival just after theNational Football Conference (NFC) championship game.

Last year's match between thePackers-Seahawks game averaged 49.8 million viewers, according totheNFL, and many will likely stick around to see the first newX-Files episode in 13 years.

The second episode will air the following night at 8 p.m. ET, where it will settle into its Monday night time-slot.

Original starsDavid Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reprise their roles as FBI agents tasked withinvestigating mysterious cases.

Premiering in 1993, the popular paranormal show went on to become one of the longest-running sci-fi series in American TV history. It also garnered62 Emmy nominations and 16 awards.

Production is slated to resume inVancouver this summerwherefive of the show's nine seasons were shot.
