Winehouse plays to Portuguese crowd, 1 hour late

British soul diva Amy Winehouse has given her first concert since leaving drug rehab, albeit showing up late and giving a listless performance in Lisbon.

The 24-year-old Grammy-winning singer was an hour late for the outdoor show in Portugal's capital on Friday night.

"Hey Lisbon," Winehouse told the crowd, which had booed when she did not show up on time. "I'm sorry I'm late."

Winehouse, clothed in a short dress witha bandage on her right hand, professed to be nursing a sore throat.

With her voice cracking at times during the 55-minute set, Winehouse attempted to belt out hits from her breakthrough album, Back to Black, including the hit single Rehab as well as reggae songs and soul classics.

The 90,000-strong crowd warmed to her but the atmosphere went cold when the singer walked off stage without playing an encore.

Earlier this month, the singer was arrested and questioned by police after video surfaced in which she appeared to be inhaling fumes from a crack pipe. Authorities said the singer would not be charged.

Last year, she cancelled a series of concerts in Britain as well as a North American tour as her life spiralled out of control with reports of drug abuse and fights with her husband.

This week, the organizers of a concert marking Nelson Mandela's birthday in June announced Winehouse had been added to the bill.

"We are delighted Amy will be appearing at Hyde Park," said Tim Massey of Mandela's 46664 AIDS charity. The concert in London will raise money for the charity.

Winehouse is also participating in the annual Glastonbury festival on June 28.
