Erratic Winehouse cancels remaining concert dates

Troubled British soul singer Amy Winehouse has cleared her plate, announcing on Tuesday the cancellation of all her remaining concerts and public appearances.

Troubled British soul singer Amy Winehouse has cleared her plate for the rest of the year, announcing on Tuesday the cancellation of all her remaining concerts and public appearances.

According to a statement on the singer's website, the decision was made after her doctor ordered her to "take complete rest and deal with her health issues."

The rigours of touring and the "intense emotional strain that Amy has been under in recent weeks" were blamed.

There are "no plans at the moment" to reschedule the cancelled concerts slated forcities across Britain and Ireland according to a spokeswoman for the singer.

The 24-year-old Winehouse has had a tough year in the spotlight amid rumours of an ongoing battle with drug and alcohol addiction. Also, the singer's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, has been held in police custody in London on charges stemming from an assault case.

At the kick-off concert to herlatest tour earlier this month, the award-winning Winehouse was booed by her fans many of whom left the shambolic show after she delivered a sub-par performance, acted erratically onstage, appeared intoxicatedand threatened some patrons who heckled her.

"I can't give it my all onstage without my Blake. I'm so sorry, but I don't want to do the shows half-heartedly," Winehouse said in her website posting.

"I love singing. My husband is everything to me, and without him, it's just not the same."

This summer, Winehouse also cancelled a series of dates, including concerts and appearances in Europe, the U.S. and Canada, citing exhaustion.

Winehouse shot to fame in 2006 with her sophomore album Back to Black, which spawned massive international hits such as Rehab and You Know I'm No Good.

She was honoured with a host of accolades this year, including best female artist at the Brit Awards, best album at the Q Awards, artist's choice at the MTV Europe Music Awards and a second Ivor Novello Award for songwriting.
