Beyonce tries Malaysia again

Beyonce Knowles is expected to perform in Malaysia, two years after she cancelled her first ever performance in the Muslim country reportedly over fears of protests.

Beyonce Knowles is expected to perform in Malaysia, two years after she cancelled her first ever performance in the Muslim country reportedly over fears of protests.

Concert organizer Marctensia confirmed Saturday the popular singer known for her current hitSingle Ladies (Puta Ring on It) will hold a concert Oct. 25 at the Buki Jalil national stadium outside Kuala Lumpur.

Beyonce has been on her "I Am..." tour this year in North America and Europe.

Back in 2007, her debut concert in Malaysia was cancelled, officially because of a scheduling conflict.

But local reports had said the primary reason was concern over demonstrations by fundamentalist Islamic groups upset over Beyonce's sex-laden image and dancing.

Protests concerning Western performers have been the design of the country's Islamic PAS party and other conservative Islamic groups.

Canadian rocker Avril Lavigne almost had her August 2008 concert cancelled because the government deemed her "too sexy."The incidentwas precipitated by a complaint filedby a Muslim youth group.

Eventually, authorities at the country's Arts, Culture and Heritage Ministry approved the concert but would not divulge why they changed their minds.

The Malaysian government has also imposed a dress code for performers requiring them to be covered from chest to knees.Obscene or drug-related images are also banned.

Performersmust also refrain from jumping, shouting, hugging and kissing on stage.
