Windsor trucker watching movie while driving, OPP say

A Windsor man has been charged after police say a trucker was spotted watching a movie while driving his rig on the 401 near Cobourg, Ont.

The tractor trailer was westbound on Highway 401 shortly after 1 am Thursday morning.

OPP said a motorist contacted them to report a tractor trailer driver mightbe watching a movie while on the road.

Police stopped the trucker near Theatre Road in Hamilton Township.

A 43-year-old man from Windsor was charged with driving while displaying a screen visible to the driver.

"With the heightened awareness surrounding the distracted driving laws it is shocking to see these types of offences," said Rob Kobayashi, Northumberland detachment commander.

"I am pleased to see a community member taking the time to alert us to these poor driving behaviours. It is this very engagement that we all need to have to make our highways and communities a safer place, he said.

The offence carries a total fine of $280.

Last year there were 86 deaths were caused by distraction related collisions, OPP said.
