Windsor's gas prices will 'trend right back down,' expert says

Windsor drivers may not be happy to see the price of gason Tuesday, but one expert says things may look a little more favourable by the weekend.

The price of gas in the city jumped about 14 cents overnight to$1.23 per litre.

Dan McTeague, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy.com, said the local prices won't stay at this level for long in Windsor.

"I'm not surprised it happened, it happened rather dramatically, but as quickly as it went up, it's likely that you will within the next several days see prices trend right back down, especially on the weekend, to where they were just a few days ago,"he told CBC News in a telephone interview on Tuesday.

McTeague said Windsor is an "unusual market"that is close to a number of communities where prices are typically lower than in other regions.

"Think here of Sarnia, think here of Leamington, further out sometimes in towards London, St. Thomas and Chatham, we do see prices that are below cost,"he said.

While frustrated motorists may point to falling oil prices as an indication that gas prices are out of line, McTeague said there are many factors that go into what we pay at the pumps.

"While oil is lower, we don't put oil in our tanks, we put gasoline in our tanks. And that's a very different market,"he said, also noting that taxes and the Canadian dollaralso play a role in gas prices.
