Windsor gets up to $525K to promote children's health

The City of Windsor is getting up to $525,000 from the province to fund local community projects as part of The Healthy Kids Community Challenge.

The City of Windsor is getting up to $525,000 from the province to fund local community projects as part of TheHealthy Kids Community Challenge.

Over 45 communities across Ontario are getting funding, training, guidance and social marketing tools from the province to help promote healthy eating, physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices for children. The new program is a key part of Ontario's Healthy Kids Strategy. The strategy is a cross-government initiative launched to promote children's health.

Almost a third of Canadians aged five to 17 are overweight or obese, according toaStatistics Canada report released in late 2012.
