The incident occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday at the iCheckInn in the 2700 block of Howard Avenue, according to police.

Investigators learned that an argument involving at least three people took place in a room at the business, police said in a Sunday news release.

The argument became physical, at which point a 41-year-old man allegedly wielded a machete that had been hidden under a mattress.

Two people suffered injuries. Police said one of the victims, a male, suffered a head injury consistent with a slash wound. He was taken to hospital for treatment. According to police, the injury was severe, but not life-threatening.

The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, police said.

A search of the motel and the surrounding area did not result in an arrest. But hours later, around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the suspect returned to the crime scene and was immediately apprehended.

The suspect is being charged with one count of aggravated assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of and uttering threats to cause death, and one count of assault.

It's at least the third time this summer that Windsor police have investigated an incident involving a person brandishing a machete.

A male was arrested in June for allegedly chasing a person on Ouellette Avenue while waving a machete.

In July, a person carrying a machete was arrested on Howard Avenue in what was described as a mental health episode.
