Toronto man charged with stunt driving on stretch of 401 in Chatham-Kent

A Toronto man had his car taken away after he was allegedly caught driving at 170 km/h in the Chatham-Kent area on the weekend.

The OPP say a police officer spotted a Lexus going well above the speed limit near Queen's Lineon the westbound side of Highway 401 in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The OPP allege the driver was turning his lights on and off "in an attempt to evade police," according to a news release.

But the vehicle was pulled over.

The 26-year-old driver has been charged with stunt driving, as well as failing to stop when directed by police. He also faces charges of failing to surrendera permit for a motor vehicle and failing to have an insurance card.

The man's driver's licence has been suspended and his car impounded for a week.
