Police say woman charged with fraud after claiming she was pregnant and demanding cash

Lakeshore Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint in February, from an individual claiming to have been defrauded of about $18,500.

A woman has been charged with fraud after allegedly claiming to be pregnantand asking for money to fund medical expenses.

Lakeshore Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint in February from someoneclaiming to have been defrauded of about $18,500.

According to police, the victim said they entered a romantic relationship where the accused claimed to be pregnant, and asked for funds to go towardmedical expenses.

Following an investigation, police arrested a 26-year-old Windsor womanand charged her with fraud over $5,000, on June 6.

Investigators believe there may be others who have been a victim of what they are referring to as aromancescam.

The investigation is still ongoing.
