OPP lay charge after pedestrian was killed on Walpole Island in late August

A 27-year-old from Wallaceburg has been arrested and charged and will appear in a Sarnia court later this month.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid a charge of failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death after a pedestrian was killed on Walpole Island on Aug. 25.

It happened around 3 a.m., on Austin Road, between Creek Road and River Road.

The pedestrian was a 47-year-old from the First Nation.

"Investigation determined that a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle on the roadway, which then fled the scene," Lambton OPP said in a statement on Tuesday.

A 27-year-old from Wallaceburg has been arrested and charged and will appear in a Sarnia court later this month.

The pedestrian, a 47-year-old from theWalpole Island First Nation, was pronounced dead at the scene.
