London police are investigating the death of an inmate at Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre.

Two inmates were taken to hospital Monday morning. One inmate, a 27-year-old man, died.

The second inmate remains in stable condition, according to police.

There was no evidence of trauma to either inmate and police do not suspect foul play.

A London lawyer, Kevin Egan, who has been raising awareness about conditions at the detention centre, finds the death troubling.

"I'm not entirely surprised, but frustrated," he said. "Despite seven years of screaming from the rooftops that people are dying at (the detention centre),the government really hasn't done anything to correct the situation and here we are faced with another death."

Another inmate was found dead at the Detention Centre three years ago. Adam Kargus was 29 when he was found dead in the showers.
