A worker has died after an incident during WETRA's 'hay harvest.' (Windsor-Essex Therapeutic Riding Association)

The Ministry of Labour is investigating the death of a worker at the Windsor-Essex Therapeutic Riding Association (WETRA), after the individual was pinned by a piece of equipment they were operating.

The incident occurred during last night's "hay harvest," the association said.

According to the ministry, the worker was transported to hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.

WETRAconfirmed that the worker was not an employee of the association.

Program director Paige Shepley wrote in an email that he was "the owner of his own custom baling business and was hired to bale WETRA's hay crop."

"There is nothing more important to us than the safety of our staff, volunteers and farming partners," added WETRA. "We fully support the Ministry of Labour in its investigation into this incident."
