Essex County OPP investigate after man impersonates officer

Essex County OPP are looking for a man who allegedly impersonated an officer.

The OPP islooking for a man who allegedly impersonated an officer near the Town of Essex.

Police say on April 23 at about 9 p.m., a woman driving downNaylor Side Road near the intersection of North Talbot Road was pulled over by a vehicle with red and blue flashing lights.

Police say a man, dressed like an officer,approachedthe woman's driver's side window.

He's describe as a white man about 30 to 40-years-old, tall and fit, with short brown hair and a scruffy beard.

Police say an investigation has shown the man was not an officer, and they're asking the public to help identify him.

This isn't the first case of officer impersonation in Ontario.

On April 14, a man who was wearing a black long-sleeve shirt and a ballistic vest with the word "police" in yellow-orange letters across the front stopped a driver in Fergus Ont. He asked the driver for proof they were an essential worker, according to Wellington OPP.

"The driver provided him with the information requested.The suspect then returned to his vehicle and left the scene," OPP said in a release.

Wellington OPP saidit has received more than one complaint about this happening.

Essex OPP is asking anyone having information regarding this incident to contact them.
