Dozens attend Uber information session at Windsor hotel

The chance to work for Uber was an interesting enough prospect to draw more than 50 people to an information meeting last night.

The people who went to the meeting at the Holiday Inn on Huron Church Road were getting a chance to hear about the company and what being an Uber driver would entail.

Truck driver Mike Vachon was among those curious about what Uber had to offer.

"It's a job opportunity and I'm just here to see if it is worthwhile,"he told CBC News on Wednesday evening.

Colm Holmes said he has used Uber in Toronto and in the United States and he likes it.

"For me, I do have a full-time job, but I'm looking at it as kind of something that I can do on the side, to potentially earn some more income."

Reporters were not allowed inside the meeting.

Another information session is being held at the hotel on Thursday morning.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens has requested that city staff provide council with a report on any bylaws that may need to be amended to have Uber operate here.

Dilkens favours seeing Uber come to Windsor and has described it as "the wave of the future."
