Windsor university students make movie starring Colin Mochrie and Kevin McDonald

A movie starring comedians Colin Mochrie and Kevin McDonald has wrapped filming in Windsor and is planned for release next summer across North America.

Staffed with a crew of University of Windsor students, the feature film Boys vs. Girlsis a 1980s-setcomedy set at summer camp.

"One of our goals as filmmakersis to shine a bit of a spotlight on this region,to show off the all of the things that Windsor-Essex has to offer is really fun for us," said producer Ted Bezaire.

The bulk of the film was shot right at Kiwanis-Sunshine Point Camp in Harrow, Ont.

DirectorMike Staskosaid getting to work with professionals, on a professional set, meant a lot for the students' learning.

"They're literally applying what they learned in the classroom out in the field," he said.

"And to have other professionals thereit raises their game as well."

Mochrie(Whose Line Is It Anyway?) and McDonald(The Kids in the Hall) really lived up to their reputations and more, said Stasko, recalling how many scenes were good to go after one to two takes.

"Just the economy of them, having them on set, stepping up everyone else's game. It's worth its weight in gold."

Stasko hopes that if university students keep making films every summer, a new sector will emerge in Windsor.

"So eventually we've had enough of them get to the professional level that we now have industry here, and they become the new industry as well," he said.
