Amherstburg new hotel and condo apartments to keep downtown core 'alive'

The projects are in addition to Amicos plans to develop the south end of Boblo Island, with just under 200 residential building lots.

Development will begin in the spring of 2019

Just one day after it was announced a Quality Inn and Suites hotel will be built in Amherstburg, the town has confirmed the development of a second hotel, along with two new condominium apartments. (CBC News)

TheTown of Amherstburg has announced Amico will begin construction of a number of new developments, including a hotel, in the spring of 2019.

Thehotel will sit at the corner of Dalhousie and Gore Streets and will be developed in tandemwith two condominium apartment buildings on the mainland property, currently used in conjunction with Boblo Island.

"It's going to bring people to the downtown core, keep it alive," said Caroline Davies, president of Amherstburg Chamber of Commerce."

"It will be very robust, not only for the businesses down here, but for construction workers who are going to be able to work on it, and employees who are going to work in the building."

These projects are in addition to Amico's plans to develop the south end of the island, with just under 200 residential building lots.

"Amico is prepared to invest in excess of $120 million in Amherstburg. $105 million of this investment will be right in the heart of the Amherstburg's downtown," said Cindy Price, media relations coordinator with Amico.

On Thursday, it was announced a Quality Inn and Suites hotel will be built at the corner ofSimcoeStreet andMelocheRoad, across the street from theLibroCredit Union Centre.
