Police seek 2 suspects after man killed in shooting near Yonge and Eglinton

Toronto police say they are looking for two suspects after a man was shot to death in a vehicle in an alley near a major intersection in midtown.

Toronto police say they are looking for two male suspects after a man was shot to death in a vehicle in an alley near a major intersection in midtown Tuesday afternoon.

Police received a call about the shooting at 2:50 p.m. ET.The man, who appeared to be in his 30s, wasshotinside a white luxury vehiclenear YongeStreetand Eglinton Avenue, a busy intersection in a commercial area that is usually filled with people in the afternoon.

Police said the victimwas pronounced dead at the scene.

"We're allshocked by this, but what I can say to the area residents, Toronto is a safe city," Supt. ReubenStrobletold reporters near the crime scene.

"The public should feel safe. We are doing everything in our power to keep the public safe. We're increasing our patrols. We arein the community, in the neighbourhoods, where we should be. This area is a very quiet neighbourhood.

Stroble said the area is not what police would call a "hot spot." He agreed that the shooting was a "brazen" act.

Stroblesaid he could not confirm how many shots were fired andwhether the man was targeted, but said the front of the vehicle was damaged by bullets and it appears the man was alone at the time.

Officers are canvassing a nearby apartment building for witnesses and for security camera video.

"We have lots of work still to do," he said.

Stroble urged those responsible to surrender to police and to get a lawyer.

"We will find out who you are and you will be arrested," he said. "The trail will lead to them and we will apprehend them."

Police said in a tweet that two men were seen fleeingfrom the area in a black car. Police said both werewearingconstruction vests,one green, one orange.

A construction worker nearby said he heard about a dozen shots.
