TTC worker left commuters on train with open doors, alleges passenger

The man who posted video from inside a subway car with open doors travelling over a bridge alleges a TTC employee checked the doors, but left before they were fixed, leaving passengers in a dangerous situation.

Kamal Javed, who posted video of the 'scary' ride, says an employee checked the doors and then left

Kamal Javed was heading home after work on the subway when he captured startling video showing the train'sdoors stuck wide open as it travelled across the Bloor Street viaduct, the Don Valley far below.

Javed said the incident happened when the Toronto Transit Commission's Line 2 train was travelling eastwards between Castle Frank and Broadview stations Friday around 6 p.m.

The train, he said, was 'jam-packed'at the time.

The doors opened at Castle Frank station, but would not close, he said.A TTC employee checked the doors, and then left but the train left the station with the doors unfixed. He says that's when he decided to film the incident.

"And we thought he's coming back because maybe he's going for help or something, but in the meantime the train started moving right away."

'He never came back'

He said the TTC did not tell passengers to leave the car with the malfunctioning doors. Javed said the TTC's behaviour was "very unprofessional."

"He never came back, and he knew that we all were standing there, sitting there right next to the door,"he said. "So all the way down the door was open. Never closed."

On Sunday, TTC spokesman Brad Ross said it was his understanding that an employeeclosed the doors and took them offline, but failed to lock them properly or erect a barricade.

He said the TTC would interview the staff involved on Monday to get a better understanding of what occurred.

Javed, along-time TTC traveller, said he was shocked at what he saw happen.

"I was sitting there right next to the door and it was quite scary everybody suddenly vacated the area."

He said he and the other passengers were stunned.

"It just happened so quickly[no one was] able to even push the buzzer, the emergency line,"he added.

Ross called the incident "very serious"and said they are investigating.
