TTC may drop familiar tickets

The TTC estimates it is losing as much as $400,000 a month because of counterfeit paper tickets.

Adult TTC tickets could be on their way out.

The Toronto Transit Commission estimates it is losing as much as $400,000 a month because of counterfeit paper tickets.

The transit authority says the problem is so widespread that one of its own ticket collectors was arrested this week at Wilson and Ossington stations, after counterfeit tickets were sold from the collector's booth.

The TTC is thinking of using tokens only and eliminating the paper tickets.

The idea will be discussed at next week's commission meeting.

If the commission goes ahead, adult tickets would be taken out of circulation on Sept. 28.

Tokens would be used exclusively for adults. Seniors, students and children, however, would still be able to use tickets.
