Toronto doctor faces new sex assault charges

A Toronto doctor who is already facing charges for sexual assault has been hit with new allegations.

In a statement released Tuesday, Toronto police said Amitabh Chauhan, 33, of Ancaster, Ont., has been charged with sexual assault and administering a drug for sex.

Police say the victim, a 21-year-old woman, met up with a man in Kingston in the fall of 2003. Police allege the man put an unknown substance into the woman's drink and then sexually assaulted her.

Chauhan is scheduled to make his first court appearance late Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier this year, Chauhan and another doctorSuganthan Kayilasanathan, 32, of Markham, Ont. were charged with gang sexual assault of a 23-year-old woman.

The two doctors are accused ofdrugging and then sexually assaultingthe woman in a downtown Toronto hotel on Feb. 13.

Chauhan and Kayilasanathan are both active medical doctors in the province.

According to the Ontario Medical Association's website, Chauhan is listed as a member of the plastic surgery department at McMaster University in Hamilton.

Kayilasanathan is listed as being in family practice in Markham, just north of Toronto.

Chauhan is a long-servingmember of the Canadian military. He served as a cadet, graduated from the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ont., in 2002 and trained as a pilot as CFB Moose Jaw.

Chauhan left the military in 2007 but continued his association as a member of the naval reserve, which he joined three years ago.
