Summer scorcher: Heat warning in effect for Toronto

Good morning! You're going to want to find yourself a pool or some air conditioning today, a heat warning is in effect for Toronto as hot,humid weather descends on the city.

As of 6 a.m. it was 20 C in Toronto. A mix of sun and clouds are in the forecast for your Tuesday with a high of 31 C, feeling more like 34 with the humidex.

Some clouds will roll in this evening but an overnight low of 20 C isn't expected to provide much relief from the heat.

Hot and humid weather will stick around

The steamy weather won't leave us anytime soon.Environment Canada issued a heat warningfor Toronto yesterday with temperatures expected to climb above 30 C in the next few days. Toronto's medical officer of health also issued a heat warning Tuesday morning.

Tomorrow temperatures are expected to top off even higher than today at 32 C feeling like a scorching 38 with the humidity.

Thursday a high of 30 C is in the forecast and Friday we might finally see some relief from the heatwith a 30 per cent chance of rain and a high of 25 C.

Environment Canadaissues heat warnings when very high temperatures or humidity conditions could lead to a greater risk of heat illnesses, such as heatstroke or heat exhaustion.

That risk is greatest for:

  • Older adults.
  • Infants and young children.
  • People with chronic illnesses, such as breathing difficulties.
  • People who work or exercise in the heat.
  • Homeless people.
  • Those without access to air conditioning.

Environment Canada urgedToronto residents to drink plenty of liquid especially water before feeling thirsty, which will decrease therisk of dehydration.
