1 person dead, man arrested after stabbing at Toronto banquet hall

Toronto police were called to a banquet hall near Highway 27 and Steeles Ave. West for reports of gunfire shortly after 9:30 p.m. Friday.

One person is dead and a man has been arrested after an altercation in Toronto's west end.

Toronto police were called to a banquet hall near Highway 27 and Steeles AvenueWest for reports of gunfire shortly after 9:30 p.m. Friday.

Multiple shots were heard, and when officers arrived, they learned there had been a confrontation at the banquet hall.

Police said a person with stab wounds from the confrontation went to a nearby hospital, where they died of their injuries.

Another victim walked into a different hospital with non-life threatening injuries in connection with the incident.

A man was arrested and a firearm was recovered at the scene.

No further information on the victim has been released yet.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Toronto Police Homicide Unit.
