Remembrance Day Toronto 2015: Where you can pay your respects

TheSunnybrookVeterans Centre has found a novel way to honour its residents on Remembrance Day.

On Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., the Centrewill beginplanting30,000 Canadian flags on its groundsso that when the veterans"wake up on November 11, there will be a sea of red and white flags in a magnificent tribute and show of appreciation, from Canadians far and wide who have not forgotten their courageous contributions."

Please email RAFVolunteer@sunnybrook.caif you would like to volunteer a couple of hours of your time on Tuesday evening to plant the flags.

Thisshow of support for our veterans is one of many that will be happening over the next two days at these locations across the city. All Remembrance Day services will begin at 10:45 a.m.

Mount Pleasant Cemetery

On Remembrance Day, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) hostsa ceremony atMount Pleasant Cemeteryto honour those who have given their lives "inall branches of the military while in the service of their country in times of war, conflict and peace."

The event will take placenear the monument dedicated toLt.-Col./Wing Commander William Barker,the most decorated war hero in the history of Canada, the British Empire and theCommonwealth of Nations.

Members of theRCAFfrom 16 Wing Borden will parade and laypoppy wreaths at the monument.375 Mt Pleasant Road.The event begins at 10 a.m.

Holocaust survivor remembers

Holocaust survivor and author Nate Leipciger will speak to 1,000 students at Harbord Collegiate about the contribution and sacrifices Canadian men and women made during the Second World War as well as his own wartime experiences and liberation.

Leipciger has been involved in Holocaust education and commemoration for decades, both in Toronto and internationally.286 Harbord Street.The event begins at 10:30 a.m.
