Porsche clocked at 233 km/h on Hwy. 401, police say

A 29-year-old Mississauga, Ont., man faces dangerous driving, stunt driving and impaired driving charges after he was allegedly caught driving a Porsche Cayenne at 233 km/h on Highway 401.

The Ontario Provincial Police say they received calls at 3:43 a.m. on Sunday about a speeding vehicle thatwas heading east on Highway 401, near Markham Road, in Toronto.

An officer spotted the Porsche, just east of the city, near Whites Road in Pickering, Ont.

With the help of other officers, the sports car was stopped without incident at Brock Street in Whitby, Ont., more than 20 kilometres from where it was first spotted by fellow drivers.

The driver was arrested at the scene. He was initially charged with dangerous driving, but police say that their investigation determined he was impaired.

Police say the driver was also wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in court.
