Cultural and economic benefits

"Nuit Blanche Toronto creates significant cultural and economic energy in our City," Coun. Michael Thompson said Tuesday night in a news release. Thompson, who chairs the economic development committee at city hall, said:"It is as much a celebration of our diversity as it is a showcase for the creativity of our talented artists."

"They respond to really interesting ideas about the universe and the transformation of the body," she said.

One ofthe the highlights, she said, will be a project called Pneuma, in which high-pressure water jets are directed against a plate in the square's reflecting pool. The resulting spray forms a transparent screen beneath the pool's Freedom Arches, on which changing images will be shown.
