Man faces 10 charges after latest Project Ice arrest

Toronto police say they seized a loaded handgun from a man following a brief foot chase on the holiday weekend.

Toronto police say they seized a loaded handgun from a man following a brief foot chase on the holiday weekend.

According to a news release, police were walking towards a group of men on Kipling Avenue when one of those individuals fled.

When police caught up with him, a loaded handgun and drugs were seized.

A 25-year-old man now faces 10 drug- and firearm-related offences.

Police say they were in the Kipling Avenue and Finch Avenue West area as part of Project Icea short-term initiative they have launchedin reaction to a recent spike in gun violence.

Several prior police releases have described various gun-and-drug seizures as part of Project Ice:

  • A 46-year-old Toronto man was charged with 12 criminal counts after he allegedly sold heroin to an individual in a west-end parking lot last Wednesday. Police say "a large quantity of heroin," a handgun and ammunition were subsequently seized from his home.
  • A 37-year-old Toronto man was arrested after a foot pursuit near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West on Aug. 26. Police say a folding knife fell out of his pocket and "a quantity of marijuana" was seized. He faces five charges, including carrying a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana.
  • On Aug. 24, a man fled from police in a stairwell in the Jane Street and Falstaff Avenue area. Police say a loaded, semi-automatic firearm was tucked into his pants. A news release said he had been charged with six gun-related criminal counts.
