Gun violence becoming a pattern, locals say

People in the community told CBC Toronto Monday that gun violence is a common occurrence in the neighbourhood.

"This is not the first time for this area," said Tracey Brereton, as she pointed to five spots around the intersection where she said other shootings had taken place. "It's just too close to home."

Brereton said she's been in the area for nearly 10 years, and has stopped walking late at night if she needs to get anywhere, saying she's too nervous.

"If I'm going anywhere, I take an Uber," she said. "But it's my area. Why should I do that?"

Logan Symynyshen's family owns a restaurant near the intersection, and he says they worry for their safety.

"My dad, he's always out and about so it might have been him," he said. "And we have family who live here. It might have been anyone of them."

Symynyshen says gun violence is hurting business too.

"We do our best to make this a nice little spot," he said. "But these crimes and these murders keep happening here."
