Police ID remains found near butcher shop, suspect charged

Police have identified the human remains found last week behind an east-end butcher shop, and laid charges against a Toronto man.

Police have identified the human remains found last week behind an east-end butcher shop, and laid charges against a Toronto man.

The remains are those of 30-year-old Melissa Cooper of Toronto, investigators at 55 Division said Saturday.

Policesaid they have arrested 38-year-old Albert Ian Ohab, also of Toronto, and charged him with committing an indignity to a dead body.

Cooper's remains were found behind Charlie's Meat and Seafood, in the Broadview Avenue and Gerrard Street East area, during a routine check of the premises on April 19.

Police said at the time the discovery was suspicious, but it was not immediately deemed a homicide.

Investigators have not said how Cooper died.Ohab appeared in court on Saturday morning.
