GO Transit buses benefiting from Pan Am HOV rules

GO Transit said its bus lines are hugely benefiting from the new Pan Am Games HOV rules, which have frustrated many motorists.

The transit agency said bus routes that were averaging 15-20 minute delays last month are now consistently arriving on time or even early in some cases.

Toronto police officers working in the Games' Unified Traffic Coordination Centre, say the key to getting around it finding ways to make the HOV lanes work to your benefit.

"We have people that are saying 'You know what? This is better, I like this. I wish the HOV lanes would never go away,"said Const. Craig Brister.

Brister said he knows the lion's share of drivers won't share that opinion because of the congestion the lanes have caused in other lanes, but said "there are some benefits you can't ignore."

The Ministry of Transportation said it anticipates the traffic conditions to improve slightly during the Games, which begin on Friday.

Toronto officials, meanwhile, are warning about a series of Games-related closures that will affect city roads from Pearson to the Rogers Centre on Friday.
