Cody Nixon, a former boxer, among 2 Canadians killed in Dubai Ferrari crash

A Toronto man known for his good humour andadventurous spirit was among two Canadians killed in Dubai on Sunday when the Ferrari they were driving in slammed into a lamp post and split in half.

The National newspaper in the United Arab Emiratesreported on the crash, which killed three people at about midnight local time.Global Affairs Canada confirmed that two of the victims were Canadians.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the two Canadian Citizens who passed away in the United Arab Emirates," spokesman Diana Khaddaj said.

'Always happy'

Cody Nixon, a Toronto boxer and worldtraveller,was among those killed, his friends told CBC News.

Nixon chronicledhis globe-trotting adventureson his Instagram account,TravelWithCody, where pictures show himjumping out of planes,scuba-divingand lounging on beaches in exotic locations.

His final post shows him posing with a newly rented Ferrari in Dubai.

"He was a really funny, loving,caring guy. He was always happy,"MeesheenGustanoff, Nixon'sfriend of seven years, told CBC News.

Nixon washer fianc'sbest friend of 16 yearsand would have been the best man at their wedding, she said.

"He will always be loved and missed very much," she said.

'Part of the boxing family'

Nixon was a former member of Motor City Boxing in Oshawa, Ont., andrepresentedOntario at the Canadian Boxing Championships in 2012, boxing coach Don Nelson told CBC News.

"At the club,Cody was a genuine nice guy known for keeping us laughing, entertained and occasionallyon our toes. Although Cody had been out of the sport for about fouryears,he was part of the boxing family," Nelson said.

"We are truly saddened to hear this news. Our condolences go out this his family and friends for a young life lost much too soon."

Tributes poured in on social media, where friends repeatedly described Nixon as fun-loving, charismatic and funny.

CBC News has not been able toconfirmthe identity of the other two victims, but friends say Nixon was travelling with a cousin.

The federal government said it is working withCanadian consular officials in the United Arab Emirates to provide assistance to the families.
